Ukraine has begun developing its own large language model (LLM) in the field of artificial intelligence — it is expected to become the foundation for chatbots, analytical systems, document automation, and voice assistants.
This was reported by Femida.ua, citing an interview with Volodymyr Kulinich, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Kyiv School of Economics, for RBC-Ukraine.
The project is being implemented with the participation of key players such as the Kyivstar mobile operator, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, and the WINWIN AI center. At the same time, no state budget funding is involved — the project is financed through other means.
The presentation of the new model is expected to take place as early as December this year.
Developers emphasize that creating Ukraine’s own LLM model should become a strategically important step in protecting national interests. In particular, the use of foreign artificial intelligence systems may pose risks — especially in the fields of energy, medicine, and data protection.
It is noted that Ukraine has both the specialists and the resources for such a project, though certain challenges remain — including the development of data centers, ensuring stable power supply, and access to modern chips. Negotiations are currently underway with American companies regarding supplies.
