The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved a financial agreement with the European Investment Bank, enabling the country to attract €230 million for the restoration of critical transport infrastructure. The funding is part of the European Union’s “Solidarity Lanes” initiative aimed at strengthening logistics connections between Ukraine and EU member states.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba. According to him, the first tranche of financing will amount to €134 million.
Where the Funds Will Be Allocated
The financing will be directed toward restoring and modernizing key road infrastructure, including:
- access roads to border crossing points in the Lviv region;
- road repairs and logistics improvements in the Odesa region;
- implementation of projects ensuring stable export routes and transportation flows.
Particular attention will be given to major international highways forming the backbone of Ukraine’s logistics corridors to the EU:
- Kyiv — Chop (M-06);
- Kyiv — Kovel — Yahodyn (M-07);
- Lviv — Shehyni (M-11);
- Odesa — Reni (M-15).
Strategic Importance for the Economy
According to Oleksii Kuleba, the agreement will help integrate Ukraine’s transport network into the European TEN-T system, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and improve road safety.
It will also accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid and exports, which is crucial under wartime conditions.
Focus on Frontline Regions
Part of the funding will be allocated to infrastructure recovery in frontline areas. Government estimates indicate that at least 4,000 kilometers of roads in such regions require repair or full reconstruction.
Experts emphasize that investments in transport infrastructure not only support Ukraine’s economic resilience but also strengthen its integration into the European space.
