A new consulate of Ukraine opened in Poznan: why its opening was important

A new Consulate of Ukraine has officially opened in the Polish city of Poznan. The opening of the diplomatic institution should facilitate Ukrainians’ access to consular services and reduce the time required to process the necessary documents.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga.

Why was the new consulate opened

According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, the decision to open the consulate was made due to a significant increase in the number of Ukrainians living in Poznan and the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

Currently, about 170 thousand Ukrainian citizens live in the region, and the need for consular services is constantly growing.

“We make decisions on where to open a new consulate in accordance with existing needs: where the number of Ukrainians is increasing and where the need for consular services is increasing, respectively,” said Andriy Sybiga.

What problems will the new institution solve?

Before the opening of the consulate, residents of Poznań and the region often had to travel to other Polish cities to apply for a passport, obtain a power of attorney, register documents, or use other consular services.

It is expected that the new diplomatic institution will significantly simplify Ukrainians’ access to the necessary administrative services and reduce the burden on other consular institutions of Ukraine in Poland.

Protection of the rights of Ukrainians abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the opening of the consulate in Poznań is another step towards strengthening the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of Ukrainian citizens living or temporarily staying in Poland.

The new institution will provide a wide range of consular services needed by Ukrainians abroad and will ensure more efficient consideration of applications.
