Admission campaign-2026: applicants have already submitted over 805 thousand applications — which specialties and universities have become the most popular

The main stage of the admission campaign to higher education institutions is underway in Ukraine. As of July 28, applicants have already submitted more than 805 thousand applications for admission to bachelor’s and medical master’s programs. The Ministry of Education and Science has published the interim results of the campaign and revealed which specialties and universities are currently in the greatest demand.

Over 805 thousand applications a few days before the end of the campaign

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, as of the morning of July 28, applicants have submitted 805,822 applications.

The ministry emphasizes that this is only an interim statistic, since one applicant can submit up to ten applications, so the final picture will become clear after the completion of the acceptance of documents, provision of recommendations and confirmation of study places.

What majors are chosen by the strongest applicants

At least one application has already been submitted by 2,262 NMT participants who received maximum results during the main testing session.

The most popular majors among them were:

Philology – 459 applications;

Computer Science – 384;

Economics – 349;

Software Engineering – 311;

International Relations – 308.

The Ministry of Education and Science notes that these data indicate the professional areas chosen by applicants with the highest results.

How many applications does one applicant submit

In 2026, each applicant can submit up to 10 applications, of which no more than five are for budget places.

Currently, one applicant submits an average of four applications.

As of July 28, the following were registered:

171,549 applications with the first priority;

132,292 — with the second;
106,948 — with the third;
90,444 — with the fourth;
74,158 — with the fifth.

The ministry reminds that the first priority is the most important, because after submission it is impossible to change it.

Budget or contract: what do applicants choose

107,324 applicants submitted an application with the first priority for competitive offers with the possibility of studying under a state order.

At the same time, 64,225 applicants identified the contract form of study as their first priority.

Another 18,317 people used a combined strategy — they chose the budget as their first priority, and the contract for the same educational program as their second.

The Ministry of Education and Science explains that for some young people, a specific specialty is more important than the form of financing their studies.

The department also reminded: if the applicant refuses the recommended budget place, he will no longer be able to receive a state grant for contract training.

The following received the most applications this year:

Lviv Polytechnic National University — 36,675;
Ivan Franko Lviv National University — 30,206;
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute — 24,826;
Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University — 22,271;
Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University — 17,887;
State University of Trade and Economics — 17,654;
Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University — 17,002;
Odesa Law Academy National University — 15,328;
Vadym Hetman KNEU – 14,805;
Lutsk National Technical University – 12,776 applications.

The most applications were submitted to the following universities:

Kyiv – 189,408;
Lviv region – 103,627;
Odessa region – 68,675;
Kharkiv region – 54,634;
Vinnytsia region – 36,089;
Dnipropetrovsk region – 35,439;
Ivano-Frankivsk region – 34,514.
Demand for front-line universities remains high

Despite the war, Ukrainian applicants continue to choose educational institutions in front-line regions.

In total, 219,411 applications have already been submitted to universities in the regions for which increased regional coefficients apply, which is 29% of the total number.

The institutions that received the most applications were:

Odessa region — 68,675;
Kharkiv region — 54,634;
Dnipropetrovsk region — 35,439;
Poltava region — 24,860;
Zaporizhia region — 13,392;
Mykolaiv region — 8,188;
Sumy region — 7,756;
Chernihiv region — 6,467.
How do applicants from temporarily occupied territories enter?

As of July 28, 26,744 applications from 7,156 applicants have been submitted under quota-2.

Quota-2 provides for separate budget places for young people who are registered or live in temporarily occupied territories or in areas of active hostilities.

Such applicants participate in a separate competition for budget places.

Main dates of the admission campaign

The Ministry of Education and Science reminded of the key stages of the campaign:

until 18:00 on August 1 – submission of applications is ongoing;
until August 6 – applicants will receive recommendations for the budget;
until 18:00 on August 11 – it is necessary to confirm the place of study and fulfill the requirements of the educational institution;
until August 13 – enrollment in budget places will take place.

The ministry also emphasized that participants in the additional session of the NMT have the same rights to admission as those who took the main session. Their results are already available in electronic offices, so they can still submit documents before the end of the main stage of the admission campaign.
