Alleged FSB agent detained in Kyiv: suspected of preparing to murder Russian opposition figure

In Kyiv, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a woman suspected of preparing an assassination attempt on a Russian opposition figure, the head of one of the Ukrainian public organizations.

According to the SBU, the man has been fighting on the side of Ukraine since 2022: he first participated in hostilities in the Kyiv region, and later in the eastern direction.

According to the investigation, the suspect was supposed to shoot him with a combat pistol near one of the capital’s gyms, where the man works as a kickboxing coach.

Law enforcement officers detained the woman before the alleged crime was committed – near the sports complex, when, according to the SBU, she was conducting reconnaissance of the area and determining a possible place for an attack.

How did the suspect get to Kyiv

According to law enforcement officers, the detainee is an unemployed resident of temporarily occupied Melitopol.

The SBU claims that the Russian special service attracted her to cooperation, promising to close the criminal case on illegal drug possession.

After being recruited, the woman allegedly underwent special training. According to the investigation, she was taught conspiracy, orientation and handling firearms.

After that, the suspect was transported to Zhytomyr in transit through the territory of Belarus, from where she arrived in Kyiv.

In the capital, the woman regularly changed hotels. Also, according to the SBU, after leaving, she left special marks on the door of the room to check whether outsiders had entered.

She received the gun from a cache

According to the investigation, the Russian curator gave the woman the coordinates of a cache in the forest park zone of Kyiv.

There, she allegedly took a gun with cartridges, which she was supposed to use for the assassination attempt.

During a search of the hotel room, law enforcement officers found a weapon. They also seized a smartphone from the detainee, through which, according to the SBU, she maintained contact with an FSB representative.

The Security Service stated that the identity of the alleged Russian curator had already been established.

Suspicion of treason

SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – treason committed under martial law.

The woman is currently being held in custody without bail.

If found guilty in court, she could face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. In accordance with the principle of the presumption of innocence, a person is presumed innocent until his or her guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by law and confirmed by a court verdict of guilty.
