Almost 100 million UAH for generators: the government allocated funds for cultural institutions

The Cabinet of Ministers will allocate UAH 98.7 million for the purchase of generators and other long-term equipment for cultural institutions, art education, and cultural heritage institutions. The decision will not require additional expenditures from the state budget – the funds will be redistributed within the budget of the Ministry of Culture for 2026.

The decision was made to prepare cultural institutions for possible power outages and ensure their stable operation.

Where will almost UAH 100 million be directed?

The funding will be distributed among various institutions in the field of culture and art education.

The largest amount – UAH 27.41 million – will be received by national and state reserves.

Another UAH 20 million is provided for national theaters, and UAH 18.47 million – for institutions of professional pre-higher and higher art education.

National museums, libraries and cultural and educational centers will receive UAH 15.46 million.

Also receiving funding will be:

national art groups, concert organizations and circus institutions – UAH 12.47 million;

institutions of general secondary and extracurricular art education – UAH 3.84 million;

Ukrainian Cultural Fund – UAH 1.03 million.

Generators should ensure operation during power outages

The Ministry of Culture explained that the purchase of equipment should help institutions continue to operate in the event of power outages caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy – Minister of Culture Tetyana Berezhnaya, autonomous power supply is necessary, in particular, for the operation of shelters, security systems, lighting and communications, as well as for the proper storage of museum collections and the creation of safe conditions for people.

No additional money will be allocated from the budget

It is separately noted that the decision does not provide for an increase in the overall expenditures of the state budget.

UAH 98.7 million will be redistributed within the already approved budget of the Ministry of Culture for 2026 – the funds will be redirected from another budget program.

Thus, the government plans to strengthen the energy autonomy of cultural institutions and ensure their operation even during power outages.
