Almost 80,000 marriages were registered in Ukraine in six months: almost 40% of couples got married online

During the first half of 2026, 79,516 marriages were officially registered in Ukraine. Almost two out of five couples took advantage of the possibility of remote registration through digital services.

This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

According to the department, 30,488 couples registered their marriage online through state digital services. This is 38.3% of the total number of registered marriages in the first six months of 2026.

The Ministry of Justice notes that online marriage registration is becoming increasingly popular due to the digitalization of public services. It is most often used by military personnel, as well as couples who are in different cities of Ukraine or abroad due to the war.

Where were people married most often

The largest number of new families in the first half of 2026 was created in the capital. The regions with the largest number of registered marriages included:

Kyiv — 19,928;

Dnipropetrovsk region — 15,545;
Lviv region — 8,909;
Kyiv region — 3,333;
Odesa region — 3,262;
Kharkiv region — 3,215;
Vinnytsia region — 2,321;
Poltava region — 2,128;
Khmelnytskyi region — 1,930;
Cherkasy region — 1,916.

The Ministry of Justice reminded that an application for marriage registration can be submitted to any department of the Civil Registry and Civil Service Commission, regardless of place of residence. Ukrainians can also use the online marriage service through the “Diya” application, which greatly simplifies the procedure for those who are at a distance due to service, evacuation, or residence abroad.

In addition, the Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, has already begun beta-testing a new service in the “Diya” application, which will allow spouses to remotely dissolve a marriage. Couples who have mutual consent to divorce and do not have minor children in common will be able to use the service.

The state also continues to expand the list of digital services. In particular, for veterans and their families, the “Diya” portal has already launched the ability to submit one comprehensive application for the simultaneous registration of several state services, including the status of a person with a disability as a result of war, the status of a family member of a deceased Defender, social assistance, and a one-time cash payment.
