In Ukraine, it is proposed to introduce mandatory GPS monitoring of buses that carry out passenger transportation. It is planned to track the location of transport, speed of movement and adherence to schedules in real time.
The Ministry of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine has published a corresponding draft law.
The document provides for the creation of a legislative framework for mandatory GPS monitoring of buses on public routes. This concerns international, interregional and urban transportation.
What will be monitored via GPS
If the draft law is adopted, data on bus traffic will be able to be automatically collected, transmitted and processed.
The system will allow real-time information to be received about:
the location of the bus;
its speed of movement;
adherence to the established schedule.
It is expected that digital monitoring will allow for increased control over carriers, as well as improving the safety and quality of passenger transportation.
Bus stations will also be inspected
Another part of the legislative initiative concerns the inspection of Ukrainian bus stations.
During such inspections, it is planned to determine their actual condition, assess accessibility for low-mobility groups of the population and find out whether the bus station services meet the requirements of the legislation.
At the moment, we are talking about the draft law. Accordingly, mandatory GPS control of buses has not yet been introduced – the new rules will come into effect only if the relevant legislative amendments are adopted.
