Canada imposes sanctions against Russians involved in deportation of Ukrainian children

Canada has expanded sanctions against Russia and added eight more Russian citizens to the list. According to the Canadian government, they are involved in the illegal deportation and forcible transfer of Ukrainian children, as well as their indoctrination and militarization.

The new restrictions include Russian officials and representatives of organizations that, according to the Canadian authorities, are involved in actions against Ukrainian children.

Who is under sanctions

Canada has added to the sanctions list the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov, the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Grigory Gurov, the head of the board of the Movement of the First, Artur Orlov, and the head of the board of the regional branch of the organization, Denis Chernobay.

Restrictions were also imposed against Vladimir Khromov, an advisor to the Office of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, and the heads of the Board of Trustees of the National Center for Assistance to Missing and Affected Children, Olena Milskaya, Alexandra Kulgina, and Vitaly Suk.

The Canadian government stated that the individuals included in the sanctions list are directly involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children and their further militarization.

The EU is also preparing new restrictions

In parallel, the European Union is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against ten Russian judges, prosecutors and other officials. They are considered to be involved in the persecution of representatives of the Russian party “Apple”. The corresponding proposal was submitted to the EU Council on September 8.

As a reminder, the deportation and forced displacement of Ukrainian children remain one of the areas through which Western countries are strengthening personal sanctions against Russian officials and structures.
