In Kyiv, law enforcement officers exposed and neutralized a Russian military intelligence agent network that was preparing a series of high-profile murders of military commanders and prominent public figures.
Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, it was established that the coordination of criminal activity was carried out by a GRU staff member of the Russian Federation. It was he who determined the goals, distributed roles between the participants and supervised the preparation of the contract killings.
The group consisted of four people, including the head of a security company, a current law enforcement officer, a former convict and a woman who was responsible for logistics and transportation. One of the participants was to directly carry out the murders, while the others provided cover, escape routes and information transmission.
The perpetrators acted according to a carefully thought-out scheme. To move, they used cars with flashing lights, disguising themselves as security structures. This allowed them to leave the crime scene without hindrance. The weapons and ammunition were stored in previously prepared caches in the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions.
In addition to firearms, the intelligence group planned to use explosive devices that were to be planted under the cars of potential victims.
The detention took place on the eve of one of the assassination attempts – on the commander of a volunteer formation in the capital. During the searches, law enforcement officers seized weapons, mobile phones, SIM cards and other evidence of illegal activity.
The suspects have already been notified of suspicion under several articles, including treason, attempted murder committed on the order of a group of persons, as well as unauthorized interference in information systems. The actions of the organizers, who are in the territory of the Russian Federation, have been additionally qualified as an attempt at sabotage.
At the same time, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, all suspects are presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in court.
