Ukrainian military women have the right to leave in connection with pregnancy and childbirth, and after the birth of a child – to leave to care for her. Under certain conditions, such a period may last until the child reaches the age of six. The CCC reminded what social guarantees the legislation provides for women in military service.

How long is the leave in connection with pregnancy and childbirth

For women who are in military service, leave in connection with pregnancy and childbirth is provided.

Its duration is:

70 calendar days before childbirth;

56 calendar days after childbirth – in the general case;

70 calendar days after childbirth – in the case of complicated childbirth or the birth of two or more children.

Thus, according to the general rule, the leave is 126 calendar days, and in the presence of circumstances provided for by law – 140 calendar days.

Is it possible to go on leave until the child is three years old

After the end of the leave in connection with pregnancy and childbirth, a servicewoman can take leave to care for a child.

It can be provided until the child reaches the age of three.

Thus, military service in itself does not deprive a woman of the social guarantees provided for by law related to motherhood and child care.

When leave can be extended to six years

The legislation also provides for cases when leave to care for a child can last longer.

If a child requires home care due to health reasons, a servicewoman can receive appropriate leave based on a medical certificate.

Its duration is determined by the necessary period of care, but cannot exceed the period until the child reaches the age of six.

What other guarantees do servicewomen have

Separately, the legislation establishes guarantees regarding financial support for servicewomen in cases provided for by law.

In addition, in the event of discharge from military service, monetary compensation may be paid for unused days of annual leave.

Thus, a set of guarantees applies to female military personnel, which covers the period of pregnancy, childbirth and subsequent care for the child.
