Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus Serhiy Nizhynskyi found himself at the center of a public diplomatic scandal after a statement about his alleged resignation, which he addressed to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the diplomat, the reason for this step was the demands of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which, in his opinion, could contradict the legislation and harm state interests.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically denied these statements, calling them false and manipulative. The department emphasized that on June 10, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga submitted a request to recall the ambassador, and the decision on his work in Cyprus was made due to the lack of significant results and reputational risks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the diplomat was probably informed of the upcoming recall and tried to present the situation as a voluntary resignation.

The situation surrounding the Ukrainian Embassy in Cyprus continues to cause public resonance, and official parties are refraining from additional comments until the completion of internal procedures.
