Ukrainians have been given the opportunity to file for divorce online through the “Diya” application. The service is available to spouses who have decided to divorce by mutual consent.
To file for divorce, one spouse must create a corresponding application in “Diya”, after which the other must confirm it in their application. Next, the system will automatically check the necessary information in the State Register of Civil Status Acts of Citizens.
When the marriage will be dissolved
After filing the application, a one-month period is provided. After its completion, the marriage may be dissolved.
At the same time, the spouses have the opportunity to change their minds. The application can be withdrawn no later than four hours before the video conference.
Previously, to file for divorce through the DRACS bodies, the spouses had to personally visit the relevant department at least twice and submit paper documents.
Who will not be able to get a divorce through “Diya”
The key condition for using the new service is the mutual consent of both spouses. If one of the partners does not confirm the application, it will not be possible to formalize the divorce in this way.
Also, the online procedure does not replace a court divorce for spouses who have minor children together. In this case, the marriage is still dissolved through the court.
For citizens who do not use “Diya”, the traditional method remains – a personal application to the DRACS department.
