Erdogan met with Putin and Lukashenko at the SCO summit: they talked about a ceasefire

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an informal trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek.

The parties discussed the situation in the region, ceasefire negotiations, and Turkey’s accession to the SCO.

Erdogan called for resolving conflicts diplomatically

During his speech at the summit, the Turkish president said that Turkey takes responsibility for resolving regional conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue.

Erdogan also advocated harmonizing the Middle Corridor transport initiative, which runs through the Caspian Sea, with China’s Belt and Road project. According to him, this should contribute to transport connectivity and energy security.

Lukashenko, in turn, called for the creation of a “new security architecture” during his speech. Putin said it was necessary to eliminate the factors that, according to him, provoke armed conflicts.

Modi called for a peaceful settlement

On the sidelines of the summit, Putin also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Indian Prime Minister stressed support for peace efforts and said that every day of hostilities sets humanity back. According to him, problems must be resolved by peaceful means.

The leaders of China, Russia, Iran, India, Pakistan, Belarus and the states of Central Asia are participating in the SCO summit in Bishkek.
