Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine in March 2025 created serious risks not only for the Ukrainian side, but also for American diplomats in Kyiv.

Bridget Brink reported this in an interview with Reuters with a link.

According to the diplomat, the decision to pause military support was made suddenly and without prior explanation. Of particular concern was the suspension of the supply of air defense systems, since they provided protection not only for Ukrainian cities, but also for foreign diplomatic missions in the capital.

Brink emphasized that at that time the US embassy in Kyiv remained a potential target of Russian attacks, and its security largely depended on the capabilities of Ukrainian air defense.

“I had 1,000 people, all civilians, on site. And we were protected by Ukrainians, using American and other equipment,” the former diplomat said.

She stressed that decisions to reduce military support have direct consequences not only for the front, but also for the safety of international diplomatic personnel who continue to work in Ukraine during the war.

Bridget Brink’s statement once again emphasizes the critical role of air defense systems and international assistance in protecting civilian infrastructure and diplomatic missions in the face of constant Russian attacks.
