Former People’s Deputy Maksym Mykytas remains in custody: appeal did not change preventive measure

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court left the preventive measure for former MP Maksym Mykytas unchanged. He will continue to be held in custody with the possibility of posting bail.

The court made the corresponding decision based on the results of consideration of the appeals of the defense.

The defense requested that the preventive measure be canceled

Mykytas’s lawyers requested that the ruling of the investigating judge of the High Court of Criminal Appeals of August 21, 2026 be canceled and that no preventive measure be applied to him.

The panel of judges rejected the appeals and left the previous decision unchanged. The ruling of the Appellate Chamber entered into force immediately after its announcement and is not subject to appeal.

What is known about the case

On August 19, the NABU and the SAPO reported details of the investigation called “Forrest Gump.” According to the investigation, this is about the activities of a criminal organization, which, in particular, laundered funds to pay bail for the former Minister of Energy and Justice Herman Galushchenko. Law enforcement officials claim that the participants in the scheme involved the state-owned Sense Bank to carry out financial transactions.

The next day, law enforcement officials published the second part of the materials called “Themis”. It dealt with the alleged raider seizures of enterprises and real estate in Kyiv.

Within the framework of this proceeding, the Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals chose for Maksym Mykytas a preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of paying a bail of 30 million hryvnias.

Thus, after the decision of the appellate court, the preventive measure against the former MP remains in force.
