Former People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation and deputy of the Kherson Regional Council Serhiy Khlan stated that under the current conditions he does not see the possibility of Ukraine winning the war with Russia. The politician also said that he advises his own children to leave the country after graduating from school and build a future abroad.
Khlan stated this during an interview in which he spoke about the course of the war, the possibility of negotiations with Russia and the situation with the air defense of Ukraine.
“Daughter, get out of here”
Khlan sharply criticized the current government and linked the prospects of the war, in particular, with the problem of corruption.
“With this government, you will never win the war. A government that steals is not set up to win,” he said.
Against this background, the politician also spoke about the decision that he advises his own children to make. According to him, his daughter is currently studying in Kyiv, but after graduating from school he recommends that she leave Ukraine.
“In the fifth year of the war, my daughter is graduating from school and I say: ‘Daughter, leave here, because you need to build a life, not live in war,’” said Khlan.
Khlan spoke in favor of continuing the negotiations
The former MP also spoke about the diplomatic path to ending the war.
In his opinion, the negotiation process with Russia should not have been stopped. Khlan believes that even in the absence of a quick result, the parties should have continued to search for possible points of contact to stop the fighting.
“Don’t end the negotiations, don’t end them and find points of contact in order to finally stop the killing and destruction,” he said.
He warned of a further increase in missile strikes
Khlan also expressed concern about the possibility of further escalation of mutual strikes.
According to him, Russia can continue to increase the production and use of ballistic missiles, while Ukraine remains dependent on a limited number of missile defense systems.
The politician suggested that without a diplomatic settlement, the missile confrontation will only intensify, and the main risk will remain strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilians.
According to Khlan, one of the key mistakes of the Ukrainian authorities over the past year was the refusal to actively seek diplomatic opportunities for negotiations against the backdrop of a protracted war and the burden on the air defense system.
At the same time, Serhiy Khlan’s statements are his personal assessment of the course of the war and the prospects for its conclusion.
