Illegal enrichment of over UAH 12.7 million: current MP reported for suspicion

The prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, on behalf of the head of the SAPO, reported the suspicion of the current People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 9th convocation in illegal enrichment in the amount of more than 12.7 million UAH.

According to the investigation, during 2020–2021, the parliamentarian acquired assets, the value of which significantly exceeds his official income. This concerns real estate and other expenses, the origin of the funds for which is not confirmed by legal sources.

In particular, the materials of the proceedings include:

an apartment in the center of Kyiv with an area of ​​132.6 sq. m. worth 5.632 million UAH;

elite renovation and improvement of housing in the amount of 5.656 million UAH;

a cottage and a land plot in the resort village of Kobleve with a total value of 1.694 million UAH.

Law enforcement officers established that in order to conceal the real ownership of the property, the assets were registered in the name of a third party. At the same time, according to the investigation, it was the people’s deputy who actually used the apartment, lived in it since December 2021, supervised the repair work and made payments, including in cash.

The suspect’s actions are qualified under Art. 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal enrichment).

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of SAPO prosecutors. The case also used materials collected by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.

At the same time, in accordance with Part 1 of Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of conviction.

The investigation is ongoing, all circumstances of a possible offense are being established, and the involvement of other persons is also being checked.
