In Kyiv, a university associate professor faces up to 8 years in prison for publishing anti-government positions on social media

The Security Service of Ukraine reported suspicions to a lecturer at one of the capital’s universities who, according to investigators, filmed the location of Ukrainian air defense and posted the recording on four social networks at once. For such actions, the woman faces up to eight years in prison.

Filmed air defense positions while traveling by minibus

According to law enforcement, an associate professor at one of the Kyiv universities recorded the location of units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine on her mobile phone while traveling by minibus.

The woman subsequently published the video recording on her own pages on four social networks at once — Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

The SBU notes that the distributed materials allowed identifying the positions of Ukrainian air defense on the ground.

According to the special service, an examination confirmed that the public disclosure of the relevant information harmed the state security of Ukraine.

What punishment does the teacher face

Law enforcement officers informed the woman of suspicion under Part Two of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

This is about unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, if their identification on the ground is possible under martial law.

The sanction of the specified article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, which is being conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement officers are not disclosing the name of the suspect and the name of the university where she works.

In accordance with the principle of the presumption of innocence, a person is considered innocent of committing a criminal offense until his guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of conviction.

Why is it forbidden to publish the work of the air defense

The Security Service of Ukraine once again reminds of the inadmissibility of photo and video recording of the positions of the Ukrainian military, air defense assets and their combat work with the subsequent publication of such materials.

Of particular danger are records that can be used to establish the location of military equipment, defense facilities or units of the Defense Forces.

Law enforcement officers call on citizens to refrain from distributing such information on social networks, messengers and other open sources.
