In the US, a nine-year-old boy spent more than $118,000 from his father’s corporate card on advertising campaigns for his own YouTube channel. The child spent a significant amount in just a few weeks.
The boy’s father, David Sarkisian, helped his son create the Mighty Mike Plays channel, where he posted videos about Minecraft and Roblox. The man purchased equipment and set up a place for the child to film.
How the child gained access to the corporate card
The father’s corporate card was linked to his Google account. At first, the man used it to make a purchase, after which the payment details remained saved in the account.
At first, the boy’s videos only gained 5 to 11 views. To support his son, the father himself launched paid advertising and briefly showed the child how its settings work. However, after that, he did not delete the card details or explain to his son that it was linked to the corporate account.
Later, the boy began to launch advertising campaigns on his own. The card was regularly debited, and the total amount of transactions eventually reached $118,000.
The father had to explain the expenses at work
After the transactions were discovered, the company’s management called the man in for explanations. Now he is waiting for a decision on his future work and will probably have to compensate for the losses.
The nine-year-old blogger himself was left without a YouTube channel, an iPad and a PlayStation 5.
At the same time, the story got an unexpected continuation: the father, who works in marketing, published a video about the situation. In two days, it went viral and gained over a million views.
