A significant gender wage gap persists in Ukraine. According to the State Statistics Service, women on average earn only 73% of men’s wages, and in some industries the difference reaches almost half of the income.
What salaries do Ukrainians earn
In the first quarter of 2026, the average monthly wage in Ukraine was 28,885 hryvnias.
At the same time, statistics show a noticeable difference between the incomes of men and women:
the average salary of men is 33,798 hryvnias;
the average salary of women is 24,791 hryvnias.
Thus, women in Ukraine earn on average 27% less than men.
Where is the largest wage gap
The State Statistics Service recorded the largest difference in incomes in the following areas:
47.1% – art, sports, entertainment and recreation;
38.7% – financial and insurance activities;
37.8% — information and telecommunications.
It is these industries that demonstrate the highest level of gender inequality in wages.
The gender gap remains a systemic problem
Experts note that the reasons for this imbalance may be:
unequal access to management positions;
the concentration of women in lower-paid market segments;
the difference in career opportunities;
the influence of social and family factors.
Despite the gradual increase in wages in Ukraine, the problem of gender inequality in wages remains relevant for most sectors of the economy.
