Iran demands compensation from Ukraine for damaged ship: Tehran says Kyiv recognized strike as unintentional

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran expects compensation from Ukraine for the damage to the Iranian vessel. According to him, during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, the Ukrainian side allegedly assured that the strike was unintentional and Kyiv was not interested in further escalation.

Araghchi reported this on his social networks after talks with his Ukrainian counterpart.

According to the head of Iranian diplomacy, Ukraine allegedly explained the incident as an accident and emphasized that it did not seek to escalate the situation.

At the same time, Araghchi noted that Iran is also not interested in the development of the conflict, but considers any attacks on its citizens or state interests unacceptable.

“I made it clear that any attack on our citizens or our interests is unacceptable. The damage caused must be compensated,” the Iranian Foreign Minister said.

So far, the Ukrainian side has not officially commented on Abbas Araghchi’s statement and has not confirmed the information about the alleged recognition of the strike as unintentional or the possibility of paying compensation.

As a reminder, on July 27, US President Donald Trump said that he intends to discuss with Russian leader Vladimir Putin information about the possible transfer of intelligence data by Russia to Iran that could be used to strike American military facilities in the Persian Gulf countries.
