Despite the Russian shelling of energy infrastructure and the difficult economic situation, there is no forecast for a shortage of gasoline and diesel fuel in Ukraine. The largest gas station chains have formed the necessary reserves and established alternative supply routes. At the same time, the cost of fuel continues to depend on the situation on the world oil market.
This was reported by Femida.ua with reference to Concord Fintech, which cites an explanation from the President of the Oil and Gas Association, Yaroslav Starovoytenko.
Why Ukraine is not threatened by a fuel shortage
According to the expert, the Ukrainian fuel market has adapted to work in conditions of a full-scale war. Large gas station chains have changed logistics routes, expanded the list of suppliers and created reserves of petroleum products.
Thanks to this, companies can provide fuel to the population, enterprises and the military even in the event of damage to individual infrastructure facilities.
Cooperation between fuel operators with Ukrzaliznytsia and the government plays an important role in the stability of supply. This allows for quick changes in transportation routes and reallocation of resources between regions.
Starovoitenko emphasized that supplies are carried out on a regular basis, and concluded contracts are being fulfilled.
Why are gasoline and diesel prices rising?
Despite the absence of a projected deficit, prices at gas stations may change.
The expert calls fluctuations in world prices for oil and petroleum products the main factor in the price increase.
After losing a significant part of its oil refining capacity in 2022, Ukraine became dependent on imported fuel. Accordingly, any significant changes in international energy markets also affect the cost of gasoline and diesel for Ukrainian consumers.
In particular, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the risks of oil supply disruptions may cause international quotes to increase.
Thus, the stable availability of fuel at gas stations does not guarantee that its cost will remain unchanged.
Ukrainian gas stations strengthen protection against shelling
Fuel companies pay special attention to the safety of employees and visitors to gas stations.
According to Yaroslav Starovoytenko, operators install additional engineering protective structures and mobile shelters that can be used during an air raid.
According to him, the companies cover the costs of such measures themselves, without including them directly in the cost of fuel.
What to expect for Ukrainian drivers
Currently, representatives of the fuel market do not see any prerequisites for a large-scale shortage of gasoline or diesel in Ukraine.
At the same time, the further price situation will depend on international oil quotes, exchange rates, logistics costs and security risks.
Experts emphasize that diversification of supply and formed reserves help reduce the risks of disruptions, but it is impossible to completely eliminate them in war conditions.
So, the main challenge for Ukrainian drivers remains not so much the availability of fuel, but its potential increase in price.
