The Verkhovna Rada supported the summons of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko to provide explanations regarding the capital’s preparation for the heating season. The initiators of the decision state problems with ensuring the city’s readiness for possible long-term power and water supply outages.

Why was Klitschko summoned to parliament

The initiator of the summons of the capital’s mayor was MP Mariana Bezugla. She stated that Kyiv’s preparation for the winter period was unsatisfactory and proposed to hear the mayor’s explanations.

151 MPs voted for the relevant decision. Another 8 MPs were against, 9 abstained, and 148 did not participate in the vote.

After the results were announced, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, instructed to inform the mayor of the need to appear in parliament.

“Inform that we will be waiting for him,” Stefanchuk noted.

At the same time, the specific date of Vitaliy Klitschko’s speech was not named in the published information.

Kyiv prepares for possible long power outages

The decision to summon the mayor was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the Ukrainian energy sector due to increased Russian attacks.

Earlier, the capital’s authorities asked Kyiv residents to prepare individual supplies in advance in case of a prolonged interruption of electricity and water supply.

Residents of the city were recommended to take into account possible emergencies and think over alternative options for ensuring basic needs.

Such warnings are associated with the risks of new attacks on the energy infrastructure, which could affect the operation of the capital’s utility systems.

What Klitschko says about the capital’s readiness for winter

Vitaly Klitschko previously assured that Kyiv had practically completed preparations for the heating season.

At the same time, the mayor emphasized that the stability of the power supply and the functioning of the utility infrastructure will largely depend on the intensity of Russian attacks and the effectiveness of air defense.

Thus, despite the capital’s authorities’ statements about a high level of preparedness for winter, questions have arisen in parliament about the city’s ability to withstand possible energy crises.

It is expected that during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, Vitaliy Klitschko will provide explanations about the state of Kyiv’s preparation for the heating season and measures aimed at ensuring the capital’s vital activity under martial law.
