Kyiv proposes to create an official interactive map that will show the approximate location and direction of air threats. The corresponding petition No. 14542 was registered on the Kyiv city government website.

The initiators propose to integrate the new functionality into the Kyiv Digital application or create a separate official service.

What they want to show on the map

According to the authors of the petition, the system should operate in a mode as close to real time as possible and allow users to quickly assess the air situation.

The map proposes to display:

the approximate location of the air object;
the direction of its movement;
the type or category of the target;
the approximate speed and nature of the movement;
the approximate altitude or its range, if the publication of such data is safe;
a warning about a sharp decline or dive;
a predicted area of possible danger.

The final list of information and its level of detail should be determined by the competent authorities of the security and defense sector.

Exact military data is not proposed to be disclosed

The authors emphasize that the initiative does not provide access to air defense systems for civilians or the publication of the exact coordinates of air targets.

On the contrary, they propose to use intentionally limited accuracy for the service. As a possible guideline, the petition mentions an error of approximately 0.5–1.5 kilometers.

The final parameters should be determined by the responsible state authorities, taking into account security risks.

Why is the new service proposed

The authors of the petition draw attention to the fact that currently a significant part of information about air threats is distributed in text format.

During prolonged attacks, users have to read messages, determine the direction of movement of the target and correlate the information received with their location.

This is especially difficult for people who are on the road. Therefore, for drivers and other users, it is proposed to create a special mode with large graphic symbols and a minimum amount of text.

The possibility of automatically notifying the user if an air threat is approaching the zone he has defined is also being considered.

The map may cover more than just Kyiv

The system is proposed to be created not only for the capital, but also for the Kyiv agglomeration and surrounding areas. The authors explain this by the fact that air threats are not limited to the administrative borders of the city.

In the future, a similar mechanism is proposed to be used in other cities that regularly experience Russian attacks, in particular in Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Odessa, Sumy and Kharkiv.

The initiators believe that such a system could become part of modern civil defense and help people more quickly assess the danger during air attacks.
