Kyiv is preparing to temporarily relocate over 200,000 people in case of prolonged blackouts

In Kyiv, lists of over 200,000 residents have been formed, who, if necessary, can be temporarily relocated in the event of a prolonged lack of electricity and heat supply in winter. First of all, these are citizens with limited mobility, people with disabilities, and families raising children with disabilities.

According to the city authorities, more than 200,000 Kyiv residents have been added to the lists, who may find it difficult to stay in their apartments independently during prolonged power and heating outages.

First of all, people with limited mobility, citizens with disabilities, families with children with disabilities, as well as single people who do not have the support of relatives may need help.

The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that relocation will be carried out exclusively with the person’s consent. This option will be considered in cases where, due to a prolonged lack of heat and electricity, staying at home becomes dangerous or a person will not be able to provide for basic needs independently.

So far, about two thousand residents of the capital have given their consent to the possible relocation.

Where will people be accommodated

Kyiv is already identifying institutions that will be able to receive people in the event of prolonged blackouts. Possible places for temporary accommodation include boarding houses, sanatoriums, hospitals and hotels.

60 beds have already been set up in one of the prepared centers. There are separate rooms for men and women, rooms for families, bed linen, personal hygiene products and three meals a day.

The city is also working on increasing the number of places for families with children.

Special transport is planned to be used to transport people. If necessary, district organizations of the Red Cross may be involved in organizing the relocation.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, more than 16 thousand children with disabilities, more than 160 thousand adults with disabilities and about 26 thousand single people live in the capital.

At the same time, the city authorities have not yet published the final list of institutions that will be able to accept people from the formed lists.
