Kyiv residents will pay more: a monthly pass already costs almost as much as in Paris

New public transport fares have come into effect in Kyiv since July 15. The cost of a single trip on the metro, buses, trams and trolleybuses has increased from 8 to 30 hryvnias, i.e. almost 3.75 times.

Along with single tickets, travel tickets have also risen significantly in price. An unlimited monthly pass now costs 3,656 hryvnias, which is approximately 71 euros at the current exchange rate.

After the increase in fares, Kyiv has become one of the European capitals with the most expensive monthly passes. At the same time, the absolute leader in the cost of public transport remains London, where the price depends on the transport zone, travel time and payment method. A single trip by bus or tram there costs more than 2 euros, and the metro – from 3.6 euros. An unlimited monthly pass for all transport zones will cost approximately 235 euros.

The list of cities with the most expensive monthly passes also includes:

Amsterdam (Netherlands) – 129 euros;
Berlin (Germany) – 114 euros;
Stockholm (Sweden) – 100 euros;
Paris 90.8 euros;
France – 90.8 euros;
Bern (Switzerland) – 85 euros.

Thus, after reviewing the tariffs, Kyiv, with an unlimited travel pass costing 71 euros, entered the list of European capitals with the most expensive public transport at the price of a monthly pass.

At the same time, even after the increase, the cost of a single trip in Kyiv remains lower than in most major cities in Western Europe, where ticket prices often exceed 2–3 euros.
