Former Chancellor Calls on Europe to Use Diplomacy More Actively
Former German Chancellor Merkel has said she does not plan to participate in possible talks between the European Union and Russia as a special representative. At the same time, she called on European leaders to use diplomatic opportunities more actively to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
This was reported by the Euractiv publication.

During an event in Berlin, Angela Merkel emphasized that it is the current leaders of the European Union who should conduct a dialogue with the Russian president.
According to her, the Kremlin will take the current European politicians seriously.

Merkel also made it clear that she does not consider herself a suitable candidate for the role of the European Union’s special representative for negotiations with Russia.
At the same time, she emphasized that diplomatic contacts with Moscow should be maintained even in times of war.
“Military deterrence together with diplomatic activity – this is what, in my opinion, is important,” she noted.
