Mobile communications in Ukraine may become more expensive again: when and for whom will tariffs be raised

By the end of 2026, Ukrainian mobile operators may once again revise the cost of their services. However, the increase is likely not to be the same for all subscribers: companies may primarily change individual and archive tariff plans.

A possible increase in the cost of mobile communications was reported by eQualitie digital technology consultant and telecommunications expert Oleksandr Glushchenko.

According to him, the need to revise tariffs may be associated with additional costs for operators to ensure the autonomous operation of networks during long power outages.

Who may see tariffs increase

It is not worth expecting the same price increase for all subscribers at the moment.

According to the expert’s forecast, mobile operators may act selectively. In particular, revise archive tariffs, transfer customers to new packages or increase the monthly fee simultaneously with an increase in the amount of mobile Internet, minutes or roaming services.

That is, the change in cost will depend on the specific operator and tariff plan.

Why mobile communications may become more expensive

One of the key factors is the need to ensure stable operation of networks during possible blackouts.

In particular, an initiative is being considered to ensure the autonomous operation of at least 70% of base stations for 72 hours. Currently, the relevant requirement is still being worked out.

In order for base stations to operate without electricity, operators need to purchase batteries, generators and power control systems.

The cost of services is also affected by:

increasing electricity prices;
fuel costs;
more complex logistics during blackouts;
repair of damaged infrastructure;
exchange rate fluctuations due to the purchase of equipment abroad;
shortage of qualified workers.

Additional load on mobile networks occurs directly during power outages. During such periods, a significant number of users simultaneously switch from home Wi-Fi to mobile Internet.

How much can prices increase

Olexandr Glushchenko drew attention to the fact that during the already announced point reviews of individual tariffs, the increase was approximately from 10% to 57%.

At the same time, the expert warns: this range cannot be automatically transferred to the entire market or considered a forecast of future price increases.

Therefore, it is premature to talk about a specific percentage increase in mobile tariffs for all Ukrainians.

At the same time, it will be important for subscribers not only the new price, but also whether additional investments will ensure stable operation of mobile communications and 4G during long power outages.
