Ukrainians can keep money on deposits and at the same time qualify for a housing subsidy. The interest received from a bank deposit is not included in the average monthly gross household income. However, the total amount of funds in bank accounts is important.

This is stated in the explanation of the rules for assigning housing subsidies.

Is interest on a deposit taken into account

If a person receives income from placing funds on a bank deposit, the accrued interest itself is not included in the average monthly gross family income when determining the right to a housing subsidy.

Accordingly, receiving interest on a deposit in itself is not a reason for refusing state assistance.

At the same time, when assigning a subsidy, not only the family’s income is taken into account, but also its property status.

What amount in the accounts can become a problem

The amount of savings is of key importance.

If, as of the first day of the month from which the housing subsidy is assigned, one of the household members has more than 100 thousand hryvnias in deposit or other bank accounts, the assignment of assistance may be refused.

This does not only concern the situation when 100 thousand hryvnias are stored in one deposit.

Funds placed in several bank accounts are also taken into account. That is, the distribution of savings between different accounts in itself does not change the approach to determining the right to a subsidy.

What else is checked before assigning a subsidy

When determining a citizen’s right to a housing subsidy, the Pension Fund analyzes the property status of the household.

In particular, the characteristics of the housing, real estate purchase transactions and other criteria stipulated by the rules are taken into account.

The total family income is also assessed. It may include wages, pensions, social benefits and other official income.

Thus, having a deposit does not automatically deprive a Ukrainian of the right to a housing subsidy. At the same time, the amount of funds that household members have in their bank accounts at the time of assistance is significant.
