American billionaire Elon Musk allegedly personally ordered to slow down the operation of the specialized military satellite communication Starshield in Ukraine. According to media reports, this decision could have been previously discussed with US President Donald Trump.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to American officials.
What is known about the restrictions on satellite communication
According to journalists, SpaceX founder Elon Musk personally gave an order to limit the speed of the military service Starshield, which is used to provide satellite communication.
American officials claim that Musk could have discussed the relevant decision with Donald Trump even before the restrictions were introduced.
In addition, according to the publication, after the situation became public, a telephone conversation took place between Trump and Musk.
At the same time, the US president denied responsibility for both his own and Elon Musk’s for limiting satellite communication for Ukraine.
Problems with Starlink on the Ukrainian Front
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a conference call to discuss problems with Starlink in the combat zone.
In particular, it was reported that in some areas of the front the equipment stops working when moving at a speed of approximately 130–161 km/h.
The situation has raised concerns due to the importance of stable satellite communication for military missions.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said that the US authorities did not impose restrictions on the operation of Starlink in Ukraine. He also criticized Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements regarding Washington’s possible responsibility for the situation.
Currently, reports of Musk’s personal order and preliminary coordination of this decision with Trump remain allegations of media sources and have no independent public confirmation.
