The National Bank of Ukraine presented a new commemorative coin “To the 30th Anniversary of the Monetary Reform in Ukraine”. It has a denomination of 1 hryvnia, is made of silver and combines two generations of the Ukrainian hryvnia in its design.

The novelty is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the hryvnia into circulation.

Silver and gilding

The commemorative coin has a denomination of 1 hryvnia and is made of 925 silver. Individual elements are decorated with local gilding.

The circulation will be quite limited – up to 5 thousand coins.

A feature of the new hryvnia is its design. The National Bank decided to combine the past and present of Ukrainian money in one coin.

The obverse recreated the design of the modern circulation coin with a denomination of 1 hryvnia of the 2018 model. The reverse featured an image of the first circulation one-hryvnia coin, which was issued until 2018.

Thus, the new commemorative coin symbolically demonstrates how the Ukrainian hryvnia has changed over three decades.

Where to buy the coin

The new silver hryvnia is planned to be sold through the NBU’s online store of numismatic products, as well as through distributing banks.

At the same time, the exact date of the start of sales has not yet been announced.

Due to the small circulation — only up to 5 thousand copies — the coin may be of particular interest to numismatists and collectors.
