On November 4, 2026, the National Bank of Ukraine conducted additional operations to support banks with cash foreign currency. Four banks received a total of 40 million US dollars and 21.4 million euros. The regulator emphasizes that the demand for such operations remains moderate, and there is no systemic deficit of cash currency in the banking system.

The operations were carried out by exchanging non-cash foreign currency of banks for cash. This mechanism allows financial institutions to replenish cash desks and meet the needs of customers in cash dollars and euros.

Based on the results of the operations on November 4, the NBU published the following indicators:

the announced volume of operations — 50 million US dollars and 50 million euros;

the number of participating banks — four;
the total volume of applications — 40 million dollars and 21.4 million euros;

all submitted applications were satisfied in full.

Is there a shortage of cash currency in Ukraine

According to the National Bank, during November 3-4, the total supply of cash currency within the framework of relevant operations more than tripled the actual demand of banks.

This indicates the absence of increased demand from financial institutions for additional reinforcement of cash desks.

The NBU notes that the banking system has a sufficient supply of cash foreign currency to serve customers.

At the same time, the regulator continues to apply preventive measures to maintain the stability of the foreign exchange market.

The NBU will continue operations to support banks

The National Bank plans to conduct similar operations on November 5.

The purpose of such measures is to ensure a sufficient level of cash currency liquidity and prevent possible difficulties with the availability of foreign currency for the population.

Separately, the regulator emphasizes that the exchange of non-cash currency of banks for cash does not affect the total volume of international reserves of Ukraine.

Thus, the operations carried out are preventive in nature and are aimed at supporting the smooth operation of the banking system.

We remind you that the National Bank has already used a similar mechanism for supporting bank cash desks with foreign currency in the spring of 2026.
