Some Ukrainian pensioners may receive a lump sum payment from the Pension Fund of Ukraine. This is not a new state aid, but an additional accrual of pension funds for past periods, if the right to an increased pension arose before its recalculation was carried out.
Who can receive payments “retroactively”
Most often, this situation concerns pensioners who, after taking a well-deserved rest, continued to work officially. During this time, they acquire additional insurance experience, which gives the right to review the size of the pension.
According to the legislation, the recalculation of pensions for working pensioners is carried out from April 1. However, in practice, it may be delayed due to employers’ untimely submission of reports on the payment of a single social contribution. Because of this, the Pension Fund receives the necessary information late.
After the recalculation is completed, the pensioner is paid not only the increased pension amount, but also the entire amount that he did not receive in previous months. That is why a one-time additional accrual can be significant.
Who else is entitled to additional accruals
Other pensioners can also receive a lump sum payment if, after the pension was assigned:
they confirmed additional insurance experience that was not previously taken into account;
they provided documents about higher earnings that affect the amount of the pension;
they acquired the right to allowances, promotions or other additional payments.
In such cases, the Pension Fund determines the date from which the person was entitled to an increased pension amount and pays the entire amount of the unearned funds for the past period.
Do I need to contact the Pension Fund
For working pensioners, the pension recalculation is carried out automatically, so there is no need to submit an application to the Pension Fund.
At the same time, if the reason for the pension increase is additional documents about insurance experience, salary or the right to an allowance, the pensioner must personally contact the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Ukraine. After checking the submitted documents, specialists will recalculate, and if there are legal grounds, they will pay all due funds for the past period.
Thus, a lump sum payment is not a separate social assistance, but rather a compensation for funds that the pensioner should have received earlier in accordance with the law.
