Poland has proposed to the United States to implement a trilateral project to produce interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems with the participation of Ukraine. At the same time, the production facilities are proposed to be located in Poland for security reasons.
This is reported by PAP.
The initiative was voiced by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, during a visit to Washington. According to her, such a model of cooperation should take into account the concerns of the American side regarding the safety of production on the territory of Ukraine in conditions of war.
“We proposed that this be a trilateral cooperation between the United States, Ukraine and Poland. It is about the safety of this production, so that it is carried out in a safe place,” the official noted.
In addition, the Polish side proposed to create a service center in Poland to service Patriot interceptor missiles. According to Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, this is facilitated by the country’s geographical location and the active development of the Polish defense-industrial complex.
She emphasized that Patriot missiles are a strategically important product that is in demand not only in Europe but also in the world, so Poland seeks to join their joint production.
Ukraine is already negotiating the production of Patriot
Recall that earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that at the political level, together with US President Donald Trump, the issue of the production of missiles for Patriot systems was agreed upon.
The Head of State reported that Ukrainian and American technical teams should begin work on obtaining the appropriate license as soon as possible in order to launch production.
In turn, Donald Trump confirmed the US’s readiness to provide Ukraine with a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles.
At the same time, according to Reuters, at the initial stage, production will be carried out in Germany or another European country, and after the end of the war, it is planned to be transferred directly to Ukraine.
