Poland has proposed to locate a company on its territory to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems, which will be intended for Ukraine. Warsaw explains the initiative by the fact that Polish territory is safer for the location of such a strategic production.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka.
According to her, if a Patriot missile production plant is planned to be built in Ukraine, Poland is ready to offer an alternative option – to create a company on its territory.
At the same time, the implementation of such a project will depend on the United States, since for production it is necessary to obtain an appropriate American license.
Poland also wants its own Patriot center
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka noted that Warsaw is interested in obtaining permission to create its own service center, and in the future – to produce Patriot missiles.
According to her, the possibility of Poland obtaining the appropriate license does not depend on whether Ukraine receives a similar permit.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after talks in New York that US President Donald Trump had decided to grant Ukraine licenses to produce missiles for the Patriot systems.
Why are Patriots critically important for Ukraine
Interceptor missiles for Patriot are one of the key means of countering Russian ballistic missiles.
The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated the need to increase the number of ammunition for these systems and have appealed to partners to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
At the same time, even obtaining permission to produce missiles will not mean a quick solution to the problem of their shortage. Launching a new enterprise will require time, technology, equipment and coordination of production processes.
Thus, Poland’s proposal may become one of the options for localizing the production of Patriot missiles for Ukraine’s needs, but the final implementation of the project will depend on the decision of the American side.
