SBU officers, together with the National Police of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, reported the suspicion to a deputy of the Poltava City Council.
According to the investigation, the official illegally enriched himself by hundreds of millions of hryvnias using financial schemes with virtual assets.
Cryptocurrency and hidden assets
Law enforcement officers established that back in October 2025, the deputy did not declare cryptocurrency and transactions with it in the amount of about UAH 200 million.
Later, it turned out that he also tried to hide more than UAH 340 million of unknown origin.
According to SBU cyber specialists, during 2022–2025, the defendant transferred funds through front persons to his own crypto wallets, without reflecting these assets in declarations and tax reporting.
Up to 10 years in prison
Based on the collected evidence, the deputy was informed of suspicion under the article on illicit enrichment.
The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years in prison with the possibility of confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing – law enforcement officers are establishing the sources of origin of the funds, as well as possible accomplices.
Anti-corruption practice: previous cases
Law enforcement agencies remind that the fight against illicit enrichment of officials is intensifying.
In particular, earlier the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine approved an agreement with a former deputy of the Odessa Regional Council, who pleaded guilty and pledged to compensate the state and the army for UAH 13 million.
The investigation is ongoing
Investigative actions were carried out by the SBU in Poltava region in cooperation with the police under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Evidence collection and identification of the full range of individuals involved in financial fraud are currently underway.
