The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has denied permission to the former owners of PrivatBank, Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov, to further appeal the decision to recover more than $3 billion in favor of the state-owned bank. Thus, the judicial appeal procedure is completed, and PrivatBank can focus on the enforcement of the decision.

This was reported by the press service of PrivatBank on November 4, 2026.

The refusal of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom means that the former shareholders of the financial institution have exhausted the possibilities of further reviewing the relevant decision within the framework of this judicial procedure.

What the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom decided

The British court has denied permission to Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov to appeal the decision, which provides for the recovery of more than $3 billion from them in favor of PrivatBank.

The financial institution positively assessed this result, as it eliminates legal uncertainty regarding the possible review of the decision and allows moving on to the next stage – the actual return of the awarded funds.

At the same time, the completion of the court appeal does not mean that the entire amount will automatically be credited to the accounts of the state bank.

In order to receive the funds, it is necessary to carry out appropriate enforcement procedures.

How PrivatBank will recover over $3 billion

After the appeal procedure is completed, PrivatBank may continue measures aimed at enforcing the court decision.

In particular, this concerns establishing the location of the defendants’ assets and using the mechanisms provided for by law to recover the relevant property.

Since the assets of the former owners of the bank may be located in different countries, the process of returning the funds will potentially cover several jurisdictions.

In such cases, separate procedures may be required for the recognition and enforcement of the decision of the British court in accordance with the legislation of the states in whose territory the property is located.

Therefore, the further terms and actual amounts of recovery will depend on the results of enforcement actions.

Why the decision is important for the state-owned bank

The completion of the judicial appeal is an important stage in the dispute between PrivatBank and its former shareholders.

Previously, the availability of opportunities to review the decision left some legal uncertainty regarding the further prospects for its implementation.

Now the bank has the opportunity to focus its legal efforts directly on the return of the awarded funds.

At the same time, the forced recovery of significant amounts in international disputes may require additional judicial and enforcement procedures, especially if the defendants’ property is located outside the UK.
