Rada Committee and Servant of the People Party Support Khmara for the Post of Defense Minister

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence has supported the candidacy of Yevheniy Khmara for the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. The Servant of the People faction is also ready to vote for his appointment. The parliament’s decision is expected on August 19.
MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak and the head of the Servant of the People faction, Davyd Arakhamia, announced their support for Khmara’s candidacy.
The committee unanimously supported Khmara
According to Zheleznyak, the relevant parliamentary committee supported the candidacy of Yevheniy Khmara for the position of head of the Ministry of Defense.
All 15 members of the committee voted for the relevant decision.
The next stage should be the consideration of the candidacy in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada.
Servant of the People is ready to vote for the appointment
On August 19, the Servant of the People faction held a meeting with Yevheniy Khmara and Andriy Sybiga, whose candidacies the president proposed for the positions of Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs, respectively.
Davyd Arakhamia emphasized that the nomination of the heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs falls within the competence of the president.
According to him, the faction supports the candidates proposed by Volodymyr Zelensky and will vote for Khmara in parliament.
What priorities did Khmara name
During a meeting with deputies, Yevheniy Khmara presented the main areas on which he plans to focus if appointed Minister of Defense.
Among them:
interception of the strategic initiative;
transfer of the war to the enemy’s territory;
preservation of human capital;
development of military technologies;
strengthening the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex.
Khmara also advocates preserving the effective achievements of the Ministry of Defense and specialists who have proven themselves well while working in the department.
What is known about the faction’s position
Arakhamia called Khmara a combat officer who has experience in military service and has already managed to prove himself while performing the duties of Minister of Defense.
The Servant of the People party stated that they share the approaches he voiced and are ready to support the candidacy during the vote.
The faction also expressed support for Andriy Sybiza, emphasizing his diplomatic experience and the need to continue working in the foreign policy direction.
When will the Rada vote on the new Minister of Defense
On August 18, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a proposal to appoint Yevheniy Khmara as Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
The parliament’s vote on his candidacy is expected on August 19.
To appoint Khmara as Minister of Defense, the corresponding decision must be supported by at least 226 people’s deputies.
