Rada failed laws that could have opened up over $4 billion in aid to Ukraine — Zelensky

The Verkhovna Rada did not support three bills, the adoption of which could have opened up more than $4 billion in international financial support for Ukraine. Two more failed votes concerned the implementation of the International Monetary Fund program.

This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening address.

According to the head of state, in total, receiving $30 billion in international aid this year depends on decisions that Ukraine itself must make.

In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers must adopt 44 resolutions necessary to unlock $15 billion by November 1. Another $15 billion depends on decisions by the Verkhovna Rada.

The President called on people’s deputies to support the necessary legislative changes regardless of political affiliation.

“These are not funds from the government or the opposition. In Ukraine, there are no salaries for teachers from one faction and teachers from another deputy group,” Zelensky emphasized.

Zelenskyy urged deputies not to think about elections

The President separately addressed politicians who are already focused on the upcoming elections and their own ratings.

According to him, during the war, defense financing, the functioning of the state, and social payments should remain the top priorities.

“You will think about elections after the war,” Zelenskyy said.

The Head of State also called on the Verkhovna Rada to support bills necessary for Ukraine’s further European integration.

According to him, declaring support for the European course but at the same time not voting for the legislative changes necessary for it is dishonest towards the state.

Another $27 billion needs to be raised for defense

Separately, Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine needs to raise another $27 billion for defense needs.

Amid the funding deficit, the government is also moving to tougher savings on budget funds that are not earmarked for defense spending.

According to Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky, UAH 70 billion has already been found, which is planned to be fully allocated to defense.

At the same time, the government assures that the financing of the social sphere, in particular the payment of salaries and pensions, should be carried out without interruption.
