Russian opposition artist shot dead in Poland — media

A shooting occurred in the Polish city of Biała Podlaska, resulting in the death of a 44-year-old Russian citizen, artist and opposition activist Semyon Skrepetsky. This was reported by Polish media with reference to local police.

According to preliminary information, an unknown or unidentified person fired several shots at the man. The police launched an investigation and promptly carried out measures to find the alleged attacker, but later all those detained in the case were released.

Officially, the identity of the deceased was not immediately confirmed by law enforcement officers, but the media reported that he was Semyon Skrepetsky, a well-known author of satirical works directed against the Russian leadership, in particular Vladimir Putin, and the Soviet historical heritage.

According to media reports, the day before, he participated in public actions abroad, where he demonstrated his works, which contained sharp political satire.

Polish law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation and establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
