Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Ihor Klymenko received another position

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko headed the Council of Experts on Energy Security, an advisory body to the National Security and Defense Council.

The relevant changes were made to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated May 29, 2020 No. 206/2020 “On the Council of Experts on Energy Security”.

What will the Council of Experts do

The Council of Experts on Energy Security analyzes the state and effectiveness of state policy in the energy sector.

In particular, it concerns:

energy conservation;

development of renewable energy sources;

use of alternative fuels;

preparation of relevant proposals for the National Security and Defense Council.

The next step should be the approval by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the personal composition of the Council of Experts.

What other positions does Klymenko hold

Until July 2026, Ihor Klymenko headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After that, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed him Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

The head of state explained the personnel decision by the need to strengthen Ukraine’s internal stability, coordination between defense and security structures, as well as countering cyber threats and the activities of criminal networks.

Subsequently, Klymenko also headed the National Cybersecurity Coordination Center, a working body of the National Security and Defense Council, which analyzes the situation in the field of cybersecurity and coordinates relevant activities.
