The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to use the national public address system to announce a daily national minute of silence at 09:00 in the morning.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
According to her, the public address systems will also be used during the all-Ukrainian action “Light a Candle”, which is held every year on the fourth Saturday of November to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933.
“We are forming a new culture of memory. The daily minute of silence is an important component of it and a manifestation of our respect for the fallen Defenders and civilians,” Svyrydenko noted.
As a reminder, on February 11, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in second reading a bill on the introduction of a daily national minute of silence. The document officially allowed cities and communities to use public address systems to hold daily commemorations at 9 in the morning.
Let us recall that in March, Volodymyr Zelensky signed the relevant law. The first practical steps towards implementing the initiative have already been taken in the capital. Starting from May 13, every morning in Kyiv, residents will be reminded of a nationwide minute of silence via the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City State Administration and the city loudspeaker system.
It is expected that the use of notification systems to honor the memory of the dead will become a common practice throughout Ukraine and part of a new state culture of remembrance in times of war.
