The leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile, Svitlana Tikhanovskaya, arrived in Kyiv on May 25 on an official visit. This was reported by the Belarusian publication Zerkalo. It is noted that this is Tikhanovskaya’s first visit to Ukraine since the beginning of her political activity in exile.

It is known that the trip took place at the invitation of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Together with Tikhanovskaya, her advisers Frank Vyachorka, Denys Kuchinsky and Anatoly Lebedko, as well as representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, arrived in the capital.

As part of the visit, the Belarusian oppositionist plans to hold meetings with the Ukrainian leadership and participate in the International Summit of Cities and Regions. It is expected that the parties will discuss issues of security, regional cooperation and support for democratic processes in Belarus.

We will recall that in January of this year, Zelensky and Tikhanovskaya held their first bilateral meeting in Vilnius. Then the Ukrainian president invited the Belarusian oppositionist to pay an official visit to Ukraine.

Earlier, Tikhanovskaya also stated that the Belarusian opposition was cooperating with certain Ukrainian structures in the field of information exchange. According to her, one of the key tasks remains to convey to Belarusian society an understanding of “who is carrying the real evil,” as well as to strengthen the coordination of joint actions between democratic forces.

Experts do not exclude that this visit could be an important step in strengthening communication between Ukraine and the democratic forces of Belarus against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression in the region.
