Tanzanian airline suspends flights to Russia over security threat

Air Tanzania has suspended flights between Moscow and Dar es Salaam since September 4. The carrier explained the decision by security considerations.

This is stated in the airline’s statement.

Direct flights between Moscow and Dar es Salaam were launched by Air Tanzania only in July 2026. It is currently unknown when flights may be resumed.

The airline has promised to refund passengers who have already purchased tickets for the canceled flights.

Other airlines are also changing routes

Air Tanzania is not the only carrier to review flights to Russia due to security risks.

Earlier, the Israeli airline El Al suspended flights to Moscow. Indian Air India decided to change the routes of flights from the United States to India in order to completely bypass Russian airspace. Turkish airlines have also begun canceling some flights to Russia.

What preceded this

Air Tanzania’s decision came after warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the risks of flying in Russian airspace.

Earlier, the media reported on possible plans by Ukraine to use drones on a large scale to complicate the work of Moscow airports. The Office of the President denied some of these reports.
