The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has increased the maximum number of employees of the Secretariat of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language from 40 to 65 staff units.
The government adopted the relevant decision in implementation of the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “On Strengthening the Role of the Ukrainian Language in the Establishment of the Ukrainian State”.
As reported by the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Olena Ivanovska, the expansion of the staff will allow to ensure the presence of representatives of the Language Ombudsman in most regions of Ukraine from 2027.
According to her, increasing the staff potential of the Secretariat will contribute to a more efficient response to citizens’ appeals and strengthening control over compliance with the requirements of language legislation directly in the regions.
In addition, the new representative offices should improve the interaction of the Commissioner with state authorities, local governments and territorial communities.
It is expected that the expansion of the staff will provide citizens with a more accessible and effective mechanism for protecting the right to receive information and services in the Ukrainian language.
Olena Ivanovska emphasized that the presence of a representative of the Commissioner in each region is necessary not only to respond to violations of language legislation.
Representatives will also conduct preventive and explanatory work, monitor compliance with the legislation, and interact with local communities.
Thus, the expansion of the regional network should ensure the constant presence of state language policy in the regions of Ukraine.
