The first tranche of financial support from the European Union is expected in June
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a government bill No. 0376 on the ratification of the Agreement on a Loan in Support of Ukraine between Ukraine and the European Union.
The document provides for the approval of the agreement between Ukraine as a borrower, the NBU as the borrower’s agent, and the European Union, represented by the European Commission, as a lender.
Ukraine will receive over 8 billion euros in assistance
The bill also concerns the ratification of the Memorandum of Understanding on Ukraine’s receipt of macro-financial assistance within the framework of the Loan in Support of Ukraine.
It was previously reported that on May 20, Ukraine and the EU completed negotiations on the relevant memorandum. The document was signed by European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis.
The first payment under the program is expected in June.
Total support could reach €45 billion
The macro-financial assistance package for 2026 amounts to €8.35 billion and will be provided together with financing under the Ukraine Facility.
Overall, EU budget support to Ukraine in 2026 could reach €16.7 billion, while defense assistance is forecast at €28.3 billion.
Thus, the total support to Ukraine from international partners next year could amount to around €45 billion.
