The free circulation of weapons for self-defense must be regulated in Ukraine, — lawyer Yuriy Sukhov

Ukraine needs to introduce a regulated mechanism for the free circulation of weapons for citizens who want to have them for self-defense and do not have legislative or medical restrictions. This opinion was expressed exclusively for FEMIDA.UA by Yuriy Sukhov, a lawyer at Verum Law Firm.

According to the lawyer, the right of a person to protect his own life and safety should be one of the priorities of the state.

“I believe that if a person wants to have a weapon for self-defense, and there are no medical or legal grounds for this, then he should be able to obtain such a weapon,” Yuriy Sukhov said.

The lawyer emphasized that the Constitution of Ukraine defines human rights, freedoms and interests as the highest value, and therefore the state should not unreasonably restrict citizens in their right to self-defense.

At the same time, Sukhov emphasized that the issue of weapons circulation requires clear state control and legislative regulation.

“The concept of free circulation of weapons should be clearly regulated: who has the right to weapons and what are the restrictions,” the lawyer added.

In his opinion, the discussion on the legalization of weapons should concern not only the risks of crimes or terrorist attacks, but also the ability of citizens to actually protect themselves in dangerous situations.
