The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine held a working meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Roadmap on the Rule of Law, in particular, the reform of the National School of Judges of Ukraine (NSJU) in the context of the European integration process.

The main topic of discussion was the implementation of the recommendations of the TAIEX mission of the European Union aimed at improving the legal status and institutional development of the NSJU. The participants of the meeting considered the issues of updating approaches to management, competitive selection for management positions and extending the scope of anti-corruption legislation to the management of the institution.

The Head of the HQCJ Andriy Pasichnyk emphasized the need for coordinated and consistent implementation of European recommendations with the involvement of all interested parties.

During the discussion, approaches to the implementation of TAIEX recommendations were developed, and possible changes to the Statute of the National School of Judges of Ukraine and relevant legislation were outlined. In particular, this concerns strengthening the system of training judges and developing professional teaching staff.

The Rule of Law Roadmap is a key strategic document in the negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. It covers commitments under Chapters 23 “Judiciary and Fundamental Rights” and 24 “Justice, Freedom and Security” and is an important component of Cluster 1 of the EU Negotiating Framework.

The implementation of this document is one of the decisive steps towards opening and advancing negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, and also confirms the country’s readiness to implement European standards in the field of justice.
