The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has for the first time carried out a centralized procurement of special anti-fragmentation suits for servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In total, 4,700 sets of protective equipment were contracted for the amount of over 186 million hryvnias.
The procurement was carried out by the Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense. Contracts were concluded with four suppliers, who must ensure the transfer of all sets by December 18, 2026.
What is included in the new protective set
The new anti-fragmentation suit is designed for additional protection of servicemen from ammunition fragments and bullets. At the same time, the design of the equipment must ensure sufficient mobility of soldiers during the performance of combat missions.
The weight of one set is about two kilograms.
It includes:
A jacket with special protective elements.
Pants with anti-fragmentation protection.
The wings are additional elements for protecting the pelvic area and upper thighs.
The basis of the protective properties of the suit are soft ballistic packages, which should reduce the risk of damage by fragments and bullets, while maintaining the flexibility of the equipment.
The technical characteristics were developed by the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For whom are the new suits intended
First of all, the protective equipment is designed for servicemen who perform tasks directly on the front line.
Special attention is paid to protection against fragments of artillery shells and ammunition that Russian troops drop from drones.
An important feature of the new suit is the possibility of its use together with a standard bulletproof vest. Thus, the military will be able to receive additional protection of individual parts of the body without having to give up the main armor protection.
Partners are interested in the Ukrainian development
According to the published information, there are no similar protective suits in NATO countries.
The Ukrainian prototype has already been handed over to international partners for review.
It is expected that the supply of new equipment will allow to strengthen the individual protection of Ukrainian servicemen, especially in conditions of active use of artillery and strike drones by the enemy.
All 4,700 anti-fragmentation kits should be delivered by December 18, 2026.
